Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about Chore HQ, the free trial and billing.
The basics
What is Chore HQ?
Chore HQ gives your family one place to assign chores, see what's done and keep track of what each child has earned. Parents set the chores and what they pay. Kids check them off, and texts and emails keep everyone updated.
Does Chore HQ pay my kids or move money?
No. Chore HQ only keeps track of what each child has earned. You pay them your own way, then mark the amount as paid in the app, and a confirmation email goes out.
Do my kids need their own account?
No. Kids can join with their own login, or a parent can add them to the family roster and still manage their chores and notifications.
Is there an app to install?
No. Chore HQ runs in the web browser on your phone or computer, so there's nothing to download.
Getting started
How do we get started?
Create an account and confirm your email address. The head of household then starts a new family and becomes its admin, and everyone else can register and join.
How does someone join our family?
After registering, they choose to join an existing family, enter the admin's email address, and pick a display name and a role of Parent or Kid. A parent then approves the request. The admin needs to have started the family first.
Free trial and billing
How does the free trial work?
You get 21 days free, starting when you create your family. You don't enter any payment details to register or start the trial.
What happens when the trial ends?
Your family's account becomes read-only. You can still log in and see your chores and history, but changes are paused until a parent renews. Nothing is charged automatically.
How much does it cost?
$5 a month for your whole family, with no per-user fees. Text messaging is included. You can add one, two or three months at a time for $5, $10 or $15.
Does my subscription renew automatically?
No. Each purchase is a one-time payment that adds time to your account, and any time you have left carries over. The Subscription & Billing section shows how many days remain.
How do I cancel?
There's nothing to cancel. Since there's no automatic renewal, you simply stop adding time. To request that your data be deleted, contact support.
Who can pay, and how?
Any parent in the family can renew, and the time is added to the whole family's account. Payments are processed securely by Stripe and appear as Skyline Cloud on your statement.
Notifications
What notifications will we get?
Chore HQ sends automatic texts and emails when a chore is assigned or completed, including the updated pending payout. An email also confirms each payout.
Who gets notified, and can we change it?
Parents can turn texts and email on or off for each person in Notification Settings. People who join with their own account start with email on and texts off. People a parent adds to the roster start with both on.
Everything else
What is Kronos?
Kronos is a separate budgeting and tracking tool for parents that's still in development. See what's planned.
